see the dance!
Ballet West present a programme of three popular pieces to inspire and excite, including the Utah premiere of Almost Tango, the bold and imaginative exploration of the nature of the famed Argentinian dance style from Nicolo Fonte.
Programme
Almost Dance (Fonte/Laurie Anderson, Karl Jenkins & Thomas Oboe Lee)
A theatrical piece that harks back to the origins of the sensual Tango, in the dance halls of Buenos Aires, when men outnumbered women. Re-choreographed for Ballet West, Almost Tango alludes to Tango whilst combining the structure with stylish contemporary elements.
Square Dance (Balanchine/Vivaldi)
Balanchine's classic black and white piece, complete with Dance Caller is typical of the famed choreographer, and his life-long attempt to capture perfection through classicism.
In the Middle, Somewhat Elevated (Forsythe/Leslie Stuck)
Originally part of Forsythe's masterpiece Impressing the Czar, In the Middle, Somewhat Elevated is often held up as one of the most important and impactful pieces of the latter 20th Century. Commissioned by Rudlolf Nureyev, This thrilling and exciting example of post modernism was reveloutionary back then and this sentiment still stands today.
