Nutcracker a Friend Tradition
My girl friends and I go to this every year as a friend tradition that started years and years ago. We dress to the nines, go to dinner and really make a fancy night of it. We usually try to not eat downtown due to the Holiday traffic and crowds but if you get there early enough it usually isn't a problem. The production is always the best. These kids work their hearts out on this performance and you can tell they enjoy performing. I won't miss this production. The theatre itself is lovely and brings back a days gone by feeling. I prefer sitting in the Grand Tier, which is where we always sit if we can but the Balcony is nice as well. Really young children might not be great to take to this, but older school age kids will love it. They have tickets for all different budgets and if you want a truly memorable evening out I suggest this event with all my heart!
Ballet is better than the venue
I think I would have enjoyed this more if it was held in a venue that at least offered drinks and concessions. Its mindboggling to me that you can't even get a soft drink, particularly in a venue where half the crowd is fanning themselves to cool down. I assume that the only purpose of intermission is to let in everyone that missed the hard deadline to get to seats. I'm not from Utah, so to me ballet without wine is akin to ballet without music, but here we are I guess. The ballet itself: The main dancers were good, occasionally great. The supporting cast (even excluding the kids) was pretty 'sloppy' in terms of execution. You can find high school dance squads with better precision and timing with the music than what was put on show this year from the supporting cast. Poor spacing, lack of cohesive movements, etc were common.
