Why See Utah Opera - Romeo and Juliet?

For never was a Story of more Woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo...

Utah Opera is proud to present William Shakespeare's eternal masterpiece Romeo and Juliet, musically adapted by French composer Charles Gounod. Gounod's soul-stirring work is one of the few Bard-based operas to have a lasting legacy and is continually performed as part of the classic repertory. Have some tissues to hand, as its soaring duets and melancholic, bittersweet melodies are sure to illicit some facial precipitation.

Renowned performers Anya Matanovic and Joshua Dennis take on the roles of the star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. The son and daughter of feuding families, their love catapults tensions to deadly proportions, culminating in bloodshed in the streets of fair Verona. As with all great tragedies, death awaits the young lovers as they try to fight their fate...
