Ballet West revive Stanton Welch's heartbreaking signature work which, since 1995 has delighted audiences with the classic tale of a Japanese Geisha and her all-consuming love for an American Naval officer, Pinkerton. Believing she has found lasting happiness on their wedding, her devotion is misguided, and Pinkerton only sees her and their marriage as a stepping stone for his return to America to find his 'true bride'.

Unaware of this fact, the besotted 'Butterfly' waits for her husband to come back to Japan, only to discover that she has been found wanting...

Set to Puccini's unforgettable score, this story of destruction by hope is translated into a bewitching ballet that captures the emotion of a painful, unrequited love affair.
