Why See Swan Lake?

A timeless classic

For 2015, Ballet West are bringing back their Swan Lake, conceived by Artistic Director Adam Sklute, with additional choreography by Mark Goldweber & Pamela Robinson-Harris.

This fresh and sleek production invites the audience to watch the beloved show 'once and for the very first time.' Though there are bold new experience with the story of Odette and her struggle between good and evil, it stays faithful to the definitive Pepita and Ivanov staging, proudly where it counts, including the ever popular pas de trois, the Cygnets' variation and the pas de deux, and of course the romantically enchanting score by Tchaikovsky.

WHAT IS SWAN LAKE ABOUT?

Dashing, but pressured Prince Siegfried is urged by his mother to marry soon and bids that he chooses a spouse the following night, at the royal ball. Frustrated, he goes hunting with his friends, and after becoming separated, is stunned when one of the swans he marked for prey transforms into a beautiful maiden.

He falls deeply in love, but she is terrified of him. Upon winning his trust, she divulges that she and her companions are victims of an evil spell, cast by a sorcerer Von Rothbart, who traps them on the lake and in their Swan like form, only becoming human for the night. The only way to break this spell is for one who has never loved to love her, The Swan Queen.

Prince Siegfried sets out to break the spell and rescue Odette, pitting him against he evil sorcerer in a this wonderful filling story of magic and romance. As one of the famous ballets of all time, this is a must see for all ages.
