Sleeping Beauty

As Aurora, Christiana Bennett moved convincingly from charming, bashful 16-year-old to psychologically entombed incipient woman to serene bride.

Why see Sleeping Beauty?
Back by popular demand, Utah's Ballet West stages their popular work that takes us all to the world of Once Upon A Dream. Choreographed by Adam Sklute and based on the original floor work by Mark Goldweber, it premiered in 2013 as part of the Company's national touring repertory. Re-conceived characters bring a more contemporary approach to the story, whilst remaining true to Marius Petipa's original creation. And of course, the enduring fairytale is danced beautifully to Tchaikovsky's iconic score, that also saw fame when featured in Disney's 1952 animated classic.
An innocent princess cursed by the fairy of jealousy forms the focus of this tale of love conquering over evil. Aurora, doomed to fall asleep for a hundred years by a vengeful, snubbed sprite is a kind, beautiful young girl, beloved by all that know her. At her 16th birthday in the woods, she is wooed by four princes of the North, South, East and West; however, she only has eyes for Prince Desire. Her fairy godmothers add glamor to the grand event, whilst keeping a watchful eye out for danger.
The festivities are cut short however, when the evil fairy appears to crash the party, enchanting the princess into pricking her finger on a spindle, causing her and everybody around to fall into a deep sleep. Will Prince Desire come to save the day? A fantastic way to introduce children to the delights of ballet, this family event is suitable for both kids and parents alike.
