Utah Opera brings the mayhem in this darkly mischievous Mozart classic, where Opera's most infamous playboy has his Machiavellian attempts at seduction thwarted, before he is finally punished for the rogue he is, in a deviously duplicitous comic masterpiece. Laureano Quant stars as the titular Don, opposite Caroline Corrales and Sara Gartland as Donna Anna and Donna Elvira, the two women who bring about his downfall.
Set in 18th-century Seville, Spain, the troublesome Don Giovanni disguises himself as Don Ottavio to seduce his pure and beautiful fiancée Donna Anna, ahead of the pair's impending wedding vows, leading to the murder of Donna Anna's father by Giovanni as he tries to foil the nefarious plot.
Meanwhile, Donna Elvira arrives to track down Giovanni, her errant husband. The ensuing chaos sees Giovanni try to put the moves on his own wife, whom he fails to even recognise. Once let into the secret of Giovanni's two thousand plus amorous conquests, she seeks revenge on the rake, and Don Giovanni's world begins to unravel as he faces his final comeuppance at the hands of jealous husbands, angry wives, and an unearthly presence.
