Newsies - The Musical

Newsies - The Musical at Pioneer Theatre Company

Why see Newsies - The Musical?

The Tony-winning musical treat for the whole family

Salt Lake City's own Pioneer Theatre Company present their debut production of Disney's Broadway smash Newsies, as part of their exciting 2017/18 series. Inspired by true events, and based on the Disney movie from 1992, Newsies is the story of a motley crew of newspaper delivery boys who made history! Set on the cobbled streets of 1899 New York, this high-kicking musical follows a group of rebellious newsboys who decide to strike after publishing baron Joseph Pulitzer raises newspaper prices, threatening their meager earnings....

First debuting on Broadway in 2012, Newsies won two Tony Awards for its spirited score and stunning high-octane choreography. Bursting with old-fashioned musical theatre flair, classic numbers ('Seize the Day,' 'King of New York') and a cast full of plucky, local kids, Newsies is a headline-grabbing show for all the family to enjoy.

The King of Broadway!!

I've seen the performance of the play on Netflix and I was blown away! I'm one of the rare people who saw the movie when it was released and fell in love with it on the spot. I saw it most of the 14 nights it was in our local theatre, and waited impatiently for the VHS release. This Broadway version is not exactly the same as the movie, but it is EVERY BIT as good as the movie! The songs from the movie are still there, with slightly different lyrics, and there are several new songs. Jack's character is more in-depth than in the movie, and it adds so much interest to the already awesome story. I was excited when I saw it available on Netflix and was riveted from the moment the first note played right through to the very end. In the two days since I found it on Netflix, I've watched it at least 7 times! I live 5 hours away from Raleigh, but am already planning to travel there to see this (it's early March 2018) play as it's one of my favorite stories of all time! I can't wait! ... Read more
